Intestinal Obstruction is the partial or complete blockage of normal passage of food through the intestine.  Obstruction can be caused by ingested foreign materials, tumors, part of the intestine telescoping onto itself (intussusuception), impaction of fecal material, or paralysis of a portion of the bowel.

Signs of intestinal obstruction are vomiting, lack of appetite, and abdominal pain.  As the condition progresses, weakness and dehydration develop.  Untreated obstruction is usually fatal.
